A low fluid light would be a good idea because it would warn you in advance that you had a brake problem. The air cooled VWs have a low pressure warning instead. All it can do is warn you that you have pressure in one circuit but not in the other. This is not particularly useful, because by the time the light comes on the brake pedal has already gone most of the way to the floor with little effect and you are already paniced.
