Man, I've never seen so many different (and wrong) replies to one question :-). To sort this out once and for all, this button is actually a a control light, or idiot light as people like to call it. What this light warns you about, is a failure in the braking system, or more specifically low brake fluid level (if you have a leak, the level sinks as you push the pedal). The reason it lights when you push it, is that this is a feature to check if the bulb is intact and not defective. Later cars got an automatic check feature, it is connected to the generator and ignition switch as well, and is lit when the ignition is on, and the generator is not charging, thus doubling as an extra warning light for the charging circuit. Hope this clears it all! 74 Renpe Oyrer 73 Variant L ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/
