I reckon it would be less of a problem to manage with the poor synchro (learn to double de-clutch if you haven't already), particularly if you would be in a mess if it didn't go back correctly. I don't think it would be very easy to move around with the swing axle trannie out; you would need a 'dolly' to support the rear. No problem with the "IRS" type. I don't think the Beetle swing-axle trannie would work either, but I've no experience of that. Toby has probably just missed the fact this is a '65. Dave.
