The threaded flange has ðŒü r surface on Type 3, and fits to the door panel surface; the Type 1 goes deeper into the door panel. You can sometimes change over the mirror and swivel pin part from a similar design of mirror to make a Type 3 one. Broken glass can be replaced, and later mirrors were stainless, so can be re-polished fairly easily. The chromed pot-metal (or whatever) is the weak link though. Dave.
