The metal pins have to be removed from the end caps of the plastic
guide; they are a tight push-fit through the end and through a hole
in end of the rail.  Don't try pulling off the plastic end; it is
part of the moulding.

Yes, but remove the guides and use a straightedge and straighten the
rails before you remount the seats.  The rails get bent with
careless
removing, and that's what breaks the guides.
