The metal pins have to be removed from the end caps of the plastic guide; they are a tight push-fit through the end and through a hole in end of the rail. Don't try pulling off the plastic end; it is part of the moulding. Dave. They do still hold in position on the rail. Yes, but remove the guides and use a straightedge and straighten the rails before you remount the seats.
