Factory grids with only a few breaks can be fixed but most of them are really trashed. Original wires are etched in the glass so you need to put the new grid lines over the old ones,, you then need to get the risistance of the old grid (Jim Adney knows this) and add a series resistor if necessary to produce the correct impedance.
