Use a higher octane fuel, like 91 or 92.

<<<92 is the lowest my car has seen since I met her.

The lucky bastards in Texas can
get 93 at some gas stations.

<<<In NJ at Sunoco, you can get 'Ultra' which (was) 94.5.

Is the engine CLEAN? Years of dust and oil can collect on the
cooling fins
	and around the oil cooler

<<<The engine is dusty (I live in a desert), but otherwise clean. I
have not had the shrouds (tins) off, so I don't *know* that there's nothing
in between the cylinders, but based on^1aª the rest of the engine looks,
I'd bet they're fairly clean (especially based on the fins I *can* see).

	.

Is the cooling system fairly air tight?

<<<Aha! I knew I was clever, here. I checked all the fittings, and
there didn't seem to be any gaps or significant leaks, but...

Are the hoses connected between the cooling fan
	shroud and the heat exchangers?

<<<Do you mean from the back of the J-tube to the heater channels
under the doors? If that is the case, I *am* missing the one on my
passenger's side. I didn't even think this would be a problem, as it's past
the engine itself.

Is your timing advance SYSTEM working correctly?

<<<Tested the vacuum advance and nicely held 15psi steady.
Mechanical advance *appears* to be working, and it idles level.

	Are the spark plugs clean?

<<<No black, just a trace of orange on Bosch Platinum 'Guaranteed
for 100,000 mile' plugs. Otherwise very clean.

This is how it stands. HC at idle Sunday, immidiately after all new
parts and such: 232ppm, yesterday at emission: 499 (out of 500). CO at .19
out of 5.50 (both days). What do ya'll think? Or should that be all y'all?
It was probably only 65¼ Sunday for the testing, and 90¼ at DMV.
