Has anyone seen or heard of this conversion before? And are there websites detailing such a conversion? Yes. Should be easy to find. Try starting with the type2 archive. http://vw.i405.com Kennedy Engineering sells the conversion plate. They sell a whole kit for putting the Legacy engine in watercooled Vanagons, so no fabbing is needed. For the bus, there's apparently a problem with the air intake hitting the gas tank at the top front of the engine compartment. For either Bus or Vanagon, you've already got the transmission to handle the increased power, especially '76 and later. For the bus and any other air-cooleds, you have to engineer something for the cooling system, which is the biggest problem. Mounting the engine is pretty easy, since it's a flat four configuration, and fits neatly, like it belongs. Just saw a picture of one in a '68-'71 bus a couple of days ago on a site dedicated to "Wild" VWs: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/1811/ Eric Forsman, '73 Square Baltimore, MD cc replies to: forsman/harris@jhu.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
