They can be repaired; I heard of someone in Shetland (a small island off the 'top' of Scotland) who does it (long winter nights etc?). Sometimes the barometer capsule(s) has a split, which can be soldered carefully. You may find some WD40 may free things up enough to move. You can't use a Type 4 sensor instead 'cos they're different. ;-( And there are different ones for the different model years. You would need access to a CO gas analyser to set up the sensor correctly. Dave.
