The large filler hose is just right to seal well between the Solex
carb top and the Gunson carb balancing device.

There is a "secret" part at this connection.  It looks like a very
large wide black rubber band, and there must be one on each steel
tube end before you slip the large hose over those ends.  Without
these, the hose will not seal.  I don't know why VW did this; looks
like bad design to me.
