I apologise for my ignorance there.   It's not something I do much,
and the piston retaining plates and locking plates define the
calipers they are supposed to be used with.  Quite right; good news
for me as I can now overhaul either type with my kit; I've got spare
plates.
Pistons *are* the same throughout, apart from the very rare 4-pot
Swedish Variant (Sqb) ones.

Dave, how could you???  The early and late pistons are both 42mm,
the
kits are only different because they contain different retaining
plates to go with the different size pads.
