Re: still won't idle

sorry to keep boring you with this, but i need to get it fixed soon - can't
deal with 19mpg.

stock '69 FI, AT.

like i say, car still won't idle.

when i replaced the plugs they were "soft, fluffy black deposits indicating a
plug that is misfiring or a fuel/air mixture that is too rich" according to
bentley. well, the plugs can be discounted since the new ones are also like
this. therefore mixture is too rich.

what would cause the mixture to be too rich?

i tested the fuel pressure (at the designated place between #1 and #2
cylinders) and it seemed at first to be ~35 psi, but then settled down to ~29,
but, some gas did seem to be leaking after a bit (faulty gauge?). would a
fuel pressure that is too high cause it to be running too rich? i'm thinking
now that it won't idle because there isn't enough *air* at idle speed? i have
all new fuel lines (maybe this has something to do with increased fuel
pressure?).

i fitted a new (used), working distributor; trigger contacts ok, timing set.
all electrical connections seem good.
i don't always have a perfect seal around all 4 intake air distributor pipes,
*but*, i'm fairly sure this problem appeared before they became worn. can i
silicone (or something else?) these as a stop-gap/means of testing?

thanks, as ever.

sonny
