Hi all, As if I didn't have enough to do already... I'm interested in creating a Web-based resource that lists bargains, specials and sales of Type III parts as well as sources of rare items. My inspiration is http://deal-mac.com , which lists best prices on Macintosh computer stuff. deal-mac is updated several times a day with things like "Computer Discount Club Zone has 4GB SCSI hard drives for $99, today only, and they've only got three in stock. Note their excessive 20% restocking fee for returns" and "a Dallas, TX reader reports that his local Computer Ripoff Outlet has an open-box iMac for $999, warranty included." I've literally saved my employer over a thousand bucks by using deal-mac as a guide. deal-mac is usually updated several times daily, which fits the pace of the computer industry. For Type III VW parts, however, I think that such a beast would be updated several times a month or several times a week, at most. Ideally, if such a resource gets the attention of the likes of Rocky Mountain, B&S, Cal Imports, CB and others, they might want to come to us with offers... in effect, it could be a source of free advertising. However, in the spirit of deal-mac, the listing would *not* be ads; deal-mac regularly reports when people have been given a raw deal or bad service by vendors. That's the way to do it. Do folks have the sense that VW part vendors often *have* sales? I have received various flyers from Rocky Mountain in the past, and I think Berg has sent out the occasional odd-and-ends sheet of specials. I would envision such a Type III resource as listing both Type III specific parts as well as things like pistions or brake calipers which might be common to other models. However, I don't envision private sales (that's what the classifieds are for) or things like Beetle tail lights or pop-top seals. Thoughts? Volunteers? I would prefer to create a Web-based administrative back end to the resource that a small team of administrators (some of you folks) would use to add updates.
