No it's not that bad. I run both; 1600E Fastback, and 1600A Variant (Squareback). The FI gives me more pleasure and response; the Variant gives better economy, but has that special throaty sound (not really an induction roar!) of the stock Solexes. As warned though, if it's a blocked gauze in the tank, expect the same problems trying to keep a carb set-up running! Generally, the problems with FI are more easily rectified, usually being poor electrical contacts or air-leaks into the induction side. Worn carbs are costly to replace or have renovated, too. Dave.
