Re: [T3] Gauging metal

Toby asked about gauging (sic) metal....

According to Mark's Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers,
there are at least ten (10) different standards for metal wire
and sheet gage. Kind ofa stretch of the term "standard" if you
ask me. But the two most(?) common, and that concern us, are the
AWG wire gage standard and the Manufacturer's Standard for
uncoated steel sheet. An example from the table is below:

Gage# AWG Mfg
		Diameter	Thickness
14 .064084 .0747
16 .050821 .0598
18 .040303 .0478
20 .031961 .0359
22 .025346 .0299

The gages in the chart go from 0000000 to 40 (thickest to
thinnest).

I am not sure of the gage of the sheet metal on a T3, but modern
cars use a range of sheet metal thicknesses from 0.5 to 1.2mm (25
to 18 gage) for the body panels. I suspect that the older T3 has
some thicker sheet metal in there some places (tunnel for sure).
Hope this helps.
