Toby asked about gauging (sic) metal.... According to Mark's Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, there are at least ten (10) different standards for metal wire and sheet gage. Kind ofa stretch of the term "standard" if you ask me. But the two most(?) common, and that concern us, are the AWG wire gage standard and the Manufacturer's Standard for uncoated steel sheet. An example from the table is below: Gage# AWG Mfg Diameter Thickness 14 .064084 .0747 16 .050821 .0598 18 .040303 .0478 20 .031961 .0359 22 .025346 .0299 The gages in the chart go from 0000000 to 40 (thickest to thinnest). I am not sure of the gage of the sheet metal on a T3, but modern cars use a range of sheet metal thicknesses from 0.5 to 1.2mm (25 to 18 gage) for the body panels. I suspect that the older T3 has some thicker sheet metal in there some places (tunnel for sure). Hope this helps.
