T3: Fender Installation Tips

Hey All,

Just a few quick tips for when you find yourself replacing an ACVW fender...

1. Tape a rag around the handle of your wrench so the end of the wrench is
well padded. Then, when (not if) your wrench slips off one of the 13mm
fender bolts, the end of the wrench will not bang the inside of your fender
resulting in a spider web chip in your new metallic paint. Unless, of
course, you need a reason to stand tall and exercise your diaphragm by
releasing a horrendous string of expletives at full volume. Trust me on
this one. Been there,....

2. Also, besides putting some grease in the threads where the fender bolts
attach, take the time before mounting the fender to run a bolt in/out of
the threads to clean them. That way, you won't have to try to start a
fender bolt while balancing a freshly painted fender on your head. Unless,
of course, (see above).

3. Don't even THINK about installing new fender beading in winter. Best
to lay down and avoid it until spring. That stuff takes on an unbridled
life of its own when its cold.

All the best,
