RE: Running a mechanical fuel pump dry

Toby Erkson asked about electric fuel pumps....

I bought a Facet electric pump (as advertised by many of the VW suppliers) for
a prototype vehicle at work and had it fail after about an hour of use. We
replaced it with a red Holley electric pump from a local speed shop and have
not had any trouble with it. The fuel pressure is also adjustable on the
Holley pump. It is also quieter that the Facet pump. Only drawback is the
price, about three times as much for the Holley as for the Facet. The Holley
is also a bit larger.

Don't have clue as to running the mechanical pump while dry...

Just me 3 cents.
