Keith Park, I returned your pressure regulator today, saturday, via Priority mail. You should see it early next week. It occcured to me that the problem might be that there is no intensional "vent" on the atmosphere side of the diaphram. Normally this space would vent adequately through the threads of the adjuster, but if these got blocked by corrosion, I wonder if it is conceivable that high pressure might build up there due to high temps and a bit of gas vapour diffusing through the diaphram. Any pressure buildup in that space would produce an equal fuel pressure increase. I would expect that such a seal would have been broken if you had tried to adjust the regulator. Do you recall if you ever tried this, or did you just swap in another one. The lack of this vent looks like a design oversight to me. I think I will be adding a small hole to these in the future. I'm surprised; I was sure there must have been a vent on these, but I checked several others downstairs, and they are all the same as yours--although I did notice that there are external construction differences even though the VW and Bosch part numbers are the same.
