Charlie, In addition to the gas tank, take an§Ίζ ook at your fuel line in the tunnel. I pulled my tank on my Bug which had been sitting for over 10 years and still had 'gas' in the tank. The fuel line in the tunnel is still so plugged I can't get any compressed air thru it. If yours is plugged also, it was suggested to me to chuck up some antenna 'guy' wire into a drill and try to drill my way through it. Haven't tried it yet, but will eventually as everything else I've tried has not worked. Good luck.
