Wow. Don't even know what to name the thread, its so funky. 1970 fastback, with complete 71 FI. Runs great-unsually. here's the story. This morning my wife hops into the fasty with the young'un to go to swimming lessons. She starts iyt, and it just sounds wrong. Like there's a tin can in the fan shroud or something. like the engine is eating itself. I sprint over in my bathrobe screaming at her to turn it off. She does. It keeps going. Not running, really, more quiet than that. Weird. more quite than at idle, but definatly still running. I pop the hatch, and remove the center wire from the disti. No change. Remove the FI plug from the disti. no change. And the engine was stone cold- couldn't be deiseling. Have her turn the car on, just to see whats up. Mhat horrible weird noise. She shuts it off. She does it again, but moves the motor to start for a second, and the engine SLOWS DOWN. I then notcie a tendril of smoke from the ignition , she turns off the key, I drap the baby, rip out the back seat, and undo the battery. It stops. Now why would my car run without fuel or spark? Was it that funky voltage regulator problem? Did I have an electric car for a minute there? The engine was running counter clockwise. Can't remember if thats right... Anyone have any ideas? Tonight I plan on tearing into the underdash electrical to fix whatever smoked.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
