God I hate carburators!!

this is not at all unexpected when messing with the carbs.  1st Id try

the new fuel pump, may not have as much pull as the original (remember
if it ani't german it MAY be crap!)  Try insulating you fuel lines as the new 
exaust may be dissipating too  much heat in the engine compartment when the car is parked.
