I know the white plastic box is a diagnostics plug that VW would hook up their diagnostic computer to check some of the engine stuff. I believe it was only on the later FI models. You can see reference to it in the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manuals (and other manuals I'm sure). Don't know about the rest. My rear defogger no longer works, either. I haven't checked into the reason why in detail but I believe my problem is my relay under the back seat (sometimes if I thump it it will 'click' and the defogger will work). What is the white plastic box that is in the engine compartament, on the driverside mounted on the rear wall. 2. I also found this disconected item: it is metal, round with what looks like two small hose mounts and one electric conector. It is on the driverside of the engin compartament, mounted on the bottom of the floor, about widle of the engine compartament. ( x on the diagram ) ... 72 Sqr Back
