To Toby & All I personally agree with both points, yes it is good and no it is not as protected from heat as it seems. Traffic Authorities in Australia prescribe rubber brake hose for vehicles manufactured after 1972 or abouts, mainly as internal damage to the "stainless" cannot be seen by inspection (luckily roadsters miss this date) What is the legal position in the good ole USA ?(Just curious) Regards Howard ---------- From: Toby Basiliko[SMTP:toby@gonzo.wolfenet.com] Sent: Friday, 4 January 1980 5:47 To: type-3@umich.edu;; datsun-roadsters@autox.team.net Subject: teflon rant -n- rave Hey all, For the umteenth time I've heard someone say, "use braided stainless line, it can't catch fire". OK, the stainless won't (unless you've got INSANE temps) but remember, all that braiding merely shields a teflon inner liner that does all the sealing work! So, enough heat (direct contact w/ the manifold, for example) WILL torch your 'braided stainless' PLASTIC piping. IT'S NOT REALLY STAINLESS TUBING (but I will admit it's extremely tough and I prefer it over rubber hoses any day!) Go safe, STOP safe Toby "done ranting now" Basiliko End
