Well anything can fail... the thing is that the electronic ignition with no moving parts has a much less chance of failure than standard points. In no way would I suggest that you drive a long roadtrip without carrying an extra set of points with you (just in case lightning does strike!) How many times have you heard of a magnet suddenly losing its magnetism??? I never have!
