"I always use the cheapest supermarket oil...", Heiko, yer killing me! Synthetic oil will not attack the seals in the VW engine. It's the best stuff for your engine. Please see these two sites, minimum: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2195/engineoil_bible.html http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-synthetics.html I use nothing but Mobil 1 in both my cars (previously I was using Castrol's Syntec, a good synthetic oil as well) and have been doing so for over two years. For those who live in cold/icy climates a synthetic oil is your best protection! I always use the cheapest supermarket oil (15W40). These oils fulfil the requiremnets of the oil that was top of the range 25 years ago. Also I heard that syntetic oils are sometimes agressive to the seals in the engine. Heiko 68 notch, 70 Fast, 71 Fast
