Sorry Rich, no advice on the engine rebuild, but the adjustment of the adjusting stars doesn't sound right. There should be a strip of metal that comes out of the cylinder housing with an indent that fits between the spokes of the adjusting stars. This keeps them from moving and throwing the brakes out of adjustment (either too tight or too loose). If you can move them so easily then you should make sure that the metal tab is there and push it further in place if necessary. This will keep the stars from moving on their own (like over a bump or pothole). There should be enough resistance so that a screwdriver is needed to make the adjustment -- I fear that they may be too loose. The more I look at this car, the more I want to believe that it has only the indicated 98k miles on it. The rear brakes were gorgeous when I took them apart. The stars move by hand (if you have long fingernails). The rust is bad but whose isn't? Is there any way to tell if the odometer has rolled over? Rich
