re: New Hollander/exhaust plop

Thanks Toby and Shawn,

For maintenance I go to a local aircooled specialist because I'm not much
of a mechanic. I get more fun out of driving the squareback. But I do
repair minor problems so I'm learning.
I think your suggestion about cleaning the connections could be helpfull.
Maybe new sparkplugs. All the other things you mentioned were taken care of.
Shawn's suggestion on the plopping of the exhaust ("carb is running lean") is
also worth trying. Thanks for these suggestions!

For technical backup I do have some literature. I also have parts of the (dutch)
original VW mechanics "bible". The problem with the english/american manuals is
the language. The more specific the more I need a technical dictionary. I've
got the same problem with some of the e-mails. It's a matter of learning the
english/american names for all those hundreds of parts where our cars are
made of. Sometimes I don't even know the dutch name for parts.

Cheap:
For a few weeks ago I advised a friend who was looking for a squareback.
Together we visited a guy who had two '72 squarebacks for sale. He bought
them both for about $ 365,-! The initial price asked was $ 2500,-!!!
And that's not all. With the two car's he got two NOS notchback rear wings free.
Selling those would leave him a profit. (Anyone interested?) Some guys have all
the luck. Also a lot of work keeping one on the road and dismanteling the
other.

That's all VWolks!
