Yeah Phil, one can remove the cooler with the engine in the car.  It's
not pretty or easy, but it becomes pretty easy if you blow all of your
oil out after using the wrong seals.  I just got through making the same
mistake you did on my '71, but I wasn't lucky and the seals didn't
hold.  Also, before I bought the car, I helped my best friend (who I
bought the car from) change the cooler seals because they were leaking
when he had the car.  Just don't forget that shroud screw way up in the
front on the cylinder cover, next to the bellhousing!  Have fun,
