Seattle VW Show

Volks,
Well, I entered in the show and got promptly stomped!

The weather was hot! and there were many good looking VWs -- I wasn't
disappointed. Unfortunately for me three or four other Type IIIs showed
up. The ones that showed definitely deserved their awards as the paint and
interiors looked pretty good (clean). Although, to stroke my own ego, none
of them had a motor than came even close to mine and my alternator drew a
lot of attention from other T3ers (Greg, you may be getting at least four
subscriptions to this list). There was a Notch that had water cooled heads
(engine from a H2O bus?) and it had an air dam taken from a Rabbit, so now
I need to find a Rabbit air dam... The H2O crowd was well represented. I
will go next year, it was worth it.

I got to meet Tom and saw his purple '72 Squareback. Wow, it's nice!
Fresh paint that has depth and sparkle (looked great in the sunlight) and a
very clean interior. He should definitely enter it in a show 'cause he was
talking just like a 'shower' ("...there's a bad spot in the paint here...a
wrinkle in the headliner there..." as I'm just looking at it and thinking
"this blows my baby away..."). Tom and I perused the parking lot and saw
some other nice rides and a couple of other T3s. One was for sale and we
noticed on the For Sale sign it just had a fresh tune-up (we figured that
was why the price was higher than it should've been :P ).

I didn't see the drag races but they went all day and many were happy with
them. There were many vendors for everything. I did see a pair of OEM T3
mudflaps but at $65 I passed. One booth had all sorts of advertising and
manuals and I saw a very healthy amount of T3 materials, including stuff
for the T34. Unfortunately the guy was from New Jersey and won't be at the
Portland show, but he does make it to many of the very big shows.
