I have one on my '65 - it is a metal (yes, metal, not plastic) cover that goes across the whole back - it has a light in the middle - same as the beetle dome light. Works good for checking out the motor when it's dark, although the 6-volt brightness leaves a little to be desired :-) I believe it is on 62-66 only but I don't know for sure - my '67 had the plastic ones. Perhaps the 12-volt system in '67 made the front dome light bright enough to light the whole interior so they got cheap and got rid of the rear light? Could be a good theory...
