Air cleaner cleaning...how to?

Howdy.

I'm about to clean my air cleaner, as per Muir, for the first time.

My car is a '63 Notch 1500S (dual carbs). What is the best way to clean 
the air cleaner? Seems like the copper wool is not removeable...should I 
simply squirt the entire thing with lots of Gunk or other spray solvent?
