Well here's what I have spent:

One oil change every Month and a half or 3k miles---@$10ea---$80/year

new front brake pads
pads were 24.99 and an addtl $20 for rotot turning-- $45

new rear brakes--- 12.99 didn't turn the drums $13

valve adj at every oil change Free(did myself)

Cap and rotot $6

2 Tires and alignment $150

Battery (I didn't actually need this but the
old one was 4 years old) $30

FI trigger contacts( these would have cost me about $70 but
people from the list talked me through servicing them and
now I don't need them.)

Fuel hose(If you buy an old FI one this is a neseccity!!! $15

                                                                _____
                                                                $294

I am sure there is something I missed so lets say an even $500
Thats $42 a month for a classic! I don't think thats too bac.

I live in Fresno Ca, but am attending school in Prescott Az. I am
cosidering another 68 squareback for when I go home for the summer. As
I said I did have a previous squareback(did not run),and I remember the
engine pretty well. I like to do my own maintainance and feel that I am
capable of doing oil changes, spark plugs, etc. As for the bigger
stuff I would love to learn. Just out of curiosity, I am wondering how
much money in maintainance do you spend yearly?, I know It depends, but
on the average.

                    Thanks for the replies, Bob

P.S- I have a copy of Muir's book, and am studying it.
