Re: Choke problem

tim

Technically the chokes would operate for while, but due to the extra voltage may
burn out. I guess they would turn off too soon as well, as they are getting
twice the voltage, they have twice the power. I would have thought getting 12v
heaters for chokes would be quite easy.
Another option would be to wire the 2 heaters in series. They would then share
the voltage between them. With this method if one failed, then they would both
stop operating.( I bit like christmas tree lights !)
A final option would be to wire a power resistor in series with each of the
heaters, to loose 6v across the resistor and keep 6 volts across the heater.

A s for unleaded petrol, it does not directly cause you to loose power, but due
to the lower octane rating of unleaded the engine may suffer from pre ignition.
To overcome this you can retard the ignition timing and this would be the cause
of loosing power slightly. This may also cause you to get lower mileage.

The lower the octane fuel used, the lower the compression ratio has to be, again
reducing power.

In the UK the highest octane fuel available is Super unleaded, so I use this in
preference to leaded petrol.
